Counterfeit $100 Bills

Numerous counterfeit $100 bills have been circulated in the Wainwright, Alberta area. Alert merchants and credit union staff were able to detect several of them. The bills share the following characteristics:

  • 1979 version;
  • serial numbers noted start with DDD or DJD
  • planchettes (those little anti-fraud dots) are printed, not applied, and can not be scratched off as they should;
  • paper is heavy, similar to, but not quite the same quality as true currency.

Information about counterfeit bill detectors is available at Wainwright Credit Union.
